Andrea Limauro's Profile

About

My art is an attempt to make sense of a childhood growing up in Italy - surrounded since infancy by ruins and monuments of grander days - and my current life in the US surrounded by modernity, steel, glass and mass-production.
I try to bridge this gap by creating semi-abstract, simple, landscapes and cloud installations that inspire contemplation and inner peace while blending traditional media with everyday mass-produced objects and construction materials (e.g. PVC, grout, cement, plastic beads, glassy resin). What from afar seem deceptively simple color-blocking landscapes actually hide multiple layers of media. Like a contemporary Rome, where strata of old material are piled on and topped by a thin coating of modernity, my paintings have multiple layers of paint topped by glossy plastic clouds or shiny resin. about me:
Born in Rome, Italy in 1976. Lived in Belgium, England, Denmark, Angola and Sierra Leone. Landed in the US in 2003 for a Masters Degree in Urban Planning and Policy in Chicago and moved to Washington, DC in 2008. Have made the Capital region my home ever since. When I am not painting I am working on urban policy issues in DC.
I have been painting since I was a child and have always found it to be my favorite and most personal escape. I am self-taught and, therefore, every experiment with techniques and materials is a new adventure. I am highly addicted to the rush I get from the creative process. I love bright colors, light and texture.
