When I worked full time I dreamed about a life that could be filled with yarns and threads, papers and paints. I could see me experimenting to find ways to translate natural textures such as bark and leaves into paper and material creations. Now I have that chance -- to go in a different direction, to a life in which I can indulge my fascination for knobby threads and draping fabrics, free flowing paints and precise pencils.
My default setting as an artist is towards the detail, and so I am drawn to botanical art. I love to find the curl of dried garlic skin or tiniest sliver of reflected light to make the work come alive. But give me a crochet hook and a pile of yarns and I will freeform my impression of a rock pool or a reinterpretation of a lace doily! Add this to a bag, and there is an art work to wear.
