Anne Maundrell's Profile

About

I am originally from England, but have been living in Brunei, in South East Asia, for a number of years and I enjoy creating one of kind art quilts inspired by the tropical rain forest, flowers and wildlife of south east Asia (and occassionally from Europe too). I find so much to inspire me in my surroundings the only problem is finding enough time to do all the things I'd like to.

A few years ago I started dyeing my own fabrics and now I use my hand dyed fabrics almost exclusively in my art quilts, because each piece of fabric is individually dyed it makes my artwork even more unique. Often I will dye my fabric several times to achieve a greater depth of colour and texture. My colours are influenced by my surroundings and the work I do myself so I have lots of greens and bright tropical colours, perfect for sunsets or vibrant flowers…

My colours are influenced by my surroundings and the work I do myself so I have lots of greens and bright tropical colours, perfect for sunsets or vibrant flowers.

I have also recently started designing my own fabrics and having them digitally printed in The USA and now these are available in my shop as home decor items. For these fabrics I take my inspiration from my art quilt designs and my now sketches and watercolour paintings.

Most of my art quilts are all made as wall hangings and have a sleeve on the back to insert a dowel or rod which can then easily be hung on hooks. Each design is a unique and one-of-kind and piece of art work, individually hand made by myself, so no two pieces are ever the same even though I might sometimes repeat a popular design. I use a variety of techniques to create my wall hangings, from intricate hand sewn needleturn appliqué, foundation piecing, to satin stitch, raw edge and invisible machine appliqué.

As I am based in Brunei the postage will be higher unfortunately and you will need to allow two to three weeks for airmail shipping, unless of course you live somewhere in Asia.
