Anne Walker's Profile

About

I have a B.A. in studio art and art history, but didn’t start making jewelry until after college. When I moved to Atlanta in 1996, I began to study metalsmithing at a local art center, and then privately with a local jeweler.

While studying art in school, I was always interested in shapes, geometry, abstractions of form, and the natural world. These interests continued when I began making jewelry, which tends to be simple in form, combining negative space (such as pierced designs), interesting shapes, and basic structures from nature.

I love simplicity and elegance, forms stripped to their bare essentials, such as the beauty of the outline of a leaf or a flower, the clean lines of a circle or square. The elegance of Asian art has influenced my designs in recent years. While I occasionally use stones or beads for color in my work, I especially enjoy the challenge of creating monochromatic pieces using only silver. There is something special about the reflective state of silver that is elegant, restful, and very easy to wear for a variety of occasions.

When I'm not creating jewelry, I work part-time for the dance department of a local university, handling marketing, designing publicity materials, accounting, and student affairs. I also love to dance, exercise, read good books, watch costume dramas, and spend time with my wonderful husband and 7 year old daughter.
