Annika Schmidt's Profile

About

My name is Annika. I created Lilleputt Studio late 2011, when I left Brooklyn, NY in search of a better life in Portland, Maine. My background is in furniture design and textiles, with a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, and some time spent studying art and design at Ölands Folkhögskola on an island off the South East coast of Sweden. I am passionate about bringing attention to daily habits and routines, by creating unique items to recognize these small moments. Drawing a lot of inspiration from my Swedish background, I seek to create simple, thoughtful designs, incorporating bold pattern and color.

Inspired by the birth of my nephew Håkan, Lilleputt Studio began with handmade baby bibs and smocks, using designer and vintage fabrics. Lilleputt now also features a line of linen/cotton home goods, including hand towels, aprons, decorative pillows and other items,…

Inspired by the birth of my nephew Håkan, Lilleputt Studio began with handmade baby bibs and smocks, using designer and vintage fabrics. Lilleputt now also features a line of linen/cotton home goods, including hand towels, aprons, decorative pillows and other items, incorporating my textile designs, which are digitally printed in an eco-friendly way. All items are sewn and finished by my hand here in Portland.

Swedish for 'peewee', Lilleputt (pronounced roughly “lill-le-poot”) was named for the small size of my studio, as well as the size of some of its intended customers.
