Anton Orlov's Profile

About

I have been making prints using traditional photographic techniques since I was 12. After receiving a B.F.A. in Photography from San Jose State University I worked in the field for a number of years. I have been making prints using traditional photographic techniques since I was 12. After receiving a B.F.A. in Photography from San Jose State University I worked in the field for a number of years. Then, in 2012, I realized a dream I had for over 15 years and built a traveling darkroom and museum called The Photo Palace Bus inside a beautiful vintage 35ft long 1978 Gillig school bus. Now I travel the country as much as I can and make my art on the road. Wherever I go I bring the joy of photography directly to the public by offering them a display of prints made with historic photo processes. I teach people how to make their own real-life art that will last centuries.
All of the work you see here is made by hand and will outlast me, you, your kids and grandchildren. A print or a plate has a life of its own - you can't look at it on a poorly calibrated computer or iPhone screen at 72dpi! It is a physical entity much like a sculpture or an oil painting. I pour hours of work into creating each and every work you see here and a bit of me is left in each of those works.
