About

Hello and welcome to Ariane Mariane - art textile / Paris.

I’m a German textile artiste, living in France for half of my life now.
Formed in architecture and graphical textile design I’m creating wearable art, wall hangings, accessories, installations and sculptures in a fancy, playful style. With powerful colors and joyful patterns I design textile stories from high quality wool fibers and noble, natural or recycled fabrics.

As a free spirit and daughter of independents I never imagined working for somebody. I need liberty to create! I always do what comes up in to my mind and may change a wall hanging into a dress just because it feels right. Therefor I love working in felting techniques – it gives this freedom by the endless possibilities it offers. I can switch from miniature to monumental, from wearable art to home…

I can switch from miniature to monumental, from wearable art to home decor just as it pleases my fingers in this special moment.

I’m persuaded that this free energy goes into my art work. There is joy and well being in my easily recognizable, outstanding pieces. My first aim is to spread happiness and fun and make your everyday life brighter!

As a today living artistes I’m concerned by environment. I’m very proud to work with sustainable materials: natural wool fibers, dyed in an eco friendly way (OEKO standard 100) and high quality natural fabrics like silk and linen. As often as possible I also recycle old clothing (all synthetic fabric are up-cycled).

Wet felting doesn’t need any machines. Everything is done by hand in a time consuming lay-out process and laborious rubbing method. Wool fibers have the particularity to get connected when heated and moved. Remember the wool sweater you washed too hot…? It’s exactly the same what I’m doing by rubbing loosen wool fibers with hot water. I just have the control to get the shape I want by calculating my design much bigger in the beginning. 30% to 60% of shrinkage is normal, depending whether you do a very thick felt for a volume or a thin one for clothes and accessories.

High quality materials, great knowledge in design and felting techniques, developed and made by hand in France today – these are the factors which determine my prices. They may seem high compared to stuff produced in an industrial way in countries where life is cheaper and social costs are smaller or not existing*. However they are calculated very economical – I don’t want to get rich but I want to get paid for my time and know-how. My prices are necessary to allow me a decent living and being able to make a high quality product you will love for decades!

Thanks for stopping by and a huge thank you to my loyal customers here on Etsy, in France and all over the world! You make my world rock!
