About

I like pattern and asymmetry.
I like nature and industry.
I like secret passages and messages in code. (Hfo alte pavbc K pql vbpkurbn.)

I have a BFA in Painting, but my recent concentration has been in ceramics. I have been working with clay for over 30 years and learned wheel throwing about 10 years ago. I also do a lot of slip-casting using my own homemade plaster molds. I LOVE making molds.

I have 3 kids; a 6 year old girl and twin 3 year old boys. While I understand there is a limit, the more kids and responsibilities I have, the more art I made. I make a lot of art. This may be an attempt to maintain sanity, but I can't tell if it's working.

Most of the objects I make have a use or meaning other than their initial impressions. Things are not what they seem; they are often better.

I don't get to play in my studio at will, however, I find ways to incorporate art into my daily life with children. Art pairs well with kids. One of my twins has Down syndrome and art and music are especially exciting for him. It helps him learn without even realizing he's working.

Although I never imagined I'd have 3 kids, twins, or a special needs child, I feel privileged to have them all in my life. I have become a stronger, better, more creative person through the joys and trials of raising my unique family. I am constantly inspired by my children and how they learn and grow. They motivate me to keep a strict schedule (to give me that illusion of control) and make me more responsible for my own actions and reactions. I still trade sleep for art, but I wouldn't trade my world for any other.

Things are not what they seem; they are often better.
