My art background and education is in fine art and textiles. Years ago, I was weaving a tiny silk fan to make a pair of earrings and was stumped with the problem of what to do with the 'ends' - so I folded a tiny paper fan, dip dyed it in my silk dyes and voila - 20 some years later I am still enjoying working with dyes and paper.
I simply never tire of working with colour and pattern. I use various papers and silk painting dyes along with wax and other resists. I carve patterns to print with and also use antique carved printing blocks mostly for making wax or gold rubbed patterns. I paint and resist in layers - basically I play to create a repertoire of colourful papers. Then I create the collages from these papers.
My inspiration is the beauty of the world around us and I try to express that in my collages. I love hearing 'They…
