I live in the Finger Lakes region of central New York, where gorges and waterfalls create beauty beyond compare. My workbench in my studio faces a hand-painted rainforest mural that I never get tired of looking at. Nature inspires me, as does modern art, ancient artifacts, geology, and geometry.
I don’t know whether it’s because I am self-taught or in spite of it, but I strive to create a collection that is strong on design and individuality. I’ve studied art and art history on my own, not in any organized curriculum. And I've always loved jewelry, admiring both innovative and traditionally ethnic approaches to it. For a long time, I'd buy or find interesting pieces at garage sales or secondhand stores and modify them.
