About

Several years ago a creative soul in the city took a vacation to a small town in the woods, and never left. I am in love with this little province in the woods and am continually inspired by the splendour of the natural world around me.

I grew up in a house where creating was just a natural part of life. If we needed something new, the first question we always asked was "How can we make it?" I have carried this creative philosophy into adulthood as I have learned to sew, quilt, knit and crochet, as well as dabble in everything from soap making to keeping an "everything created from scratch" kitchen. I share many of my adventures, as well as recipes, craft projects and gardening information on my blog: www.artisaninthewoods.com.

I am wild about wild places, creativity, and the old "waste not, want not" sentimentality of my grandmothers.

My passion is to create things that are useful, yet beautiful. Items that bring that warm handmade-just-for-me feeling to whoever owns them. In keeping with the age-old traditions of sewing when every scrap was used and old pieces were re-made or re-sewn until the fabric wore out, I love to bring new life and purpose to old fabrics, and to make projects using every scrap of both new and old materials. It is also my way of respecting the materials that our beautiful earth provides.

Sometimes I share my shop with my very talented mother, who is an artisan in the city. She brings her own artistic qualities to her work, with a crochet hook and knitting needles as her tools. Together we share the philosophy that there is nothing like having something handmade just for you!
