About

I first started sewing when I was 14 years old.
The first thing I ever attempted to sew was a teeny- weeny reversible bikini. It was a very difficult project!
My mother and grandmother helped me struggle through. They taught me how to use the machine (which was one of those old black cast iron singers) and held me when I cried.
After four months of sewing, seam ripping and adding elastic and drawstring, I did have a very cute reversible bikini, which, I was very proud!
From that first experience I was propelled onward into the world of sowing!
How liberating to make my own clothes! To be able to create something funky and unique.
I started re-modeling old clothes from thrift stores and using recycled materials to create really wild clothing.
Then my travels took me to foreign lands and I discovered the world of textiles!…

From that first experience I was propelled onward into the world of sowing!
How liberating to make my own clothes! To be able to create something funky and unique.
I started re-modeling old clothes from thrift stores and using recycled materials to create really wild clothing.
Then my travels took me to foreign lands and I discovered the world of textiles! Hand woven Guatemalan cotton, Czech/Slovakian linens, India silks and Thai brocade.
I realized that with nice fabric, a simple ergonomic design and just a little flair, it is possible to create something really lovely!
Then I discovered yoga, stretchy fabrics and the serger, which completely revolutionized my sewing style!
And so, over the span of many years, Aurora Wear has been born into its current incarnation.
Aurora is a small, one of a kind business, owned and operated by women.
All original designs are created by me in my art studio in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Northern California.
I brainstorm, cut, drape and sew in an effort to create something unique and special. Comfortable, attractive clothing. Wearable art, elegant activewear at its best.
Real clothes for real women.
After the birth of my daughter in 2004, i found time and energy lacking and started looking for someone to help with some of the sewing, which is when I meet Alba Flores. Alba is my dear friend and an amazing seamstress!
Now, between myself, Alba and my super supportive life partner, Justin Eastmen, we are able to offer you an array of designs in several colors and sizes!
I hope you enjoy Aurora Wear as much as we do!
