About

Hello! and Welcome to my corner of Maine! I am so excited to be here on Etsy!

I learned to sew in junior high, like many women my age, but did not pursue sewing as a passion until I was married. After I was married, I learned how to quilt, and I fell in love. As life started speeding up with the birth of my two children, I would still find time to quilt, sew my daughter's dresses, and make gifts. Life continued to get busy, but as my children grew, I continually would find myself going back to sewing and quilting for relaxation.

About 10 years ago, a friend who owned an antique shop asked me to make some Christmas stockings to supplement her other items in the shop. So I did! And they sold! About

Hello! and Welcome to my corner of Maine!

As Christmas drew closer, I took four of the stocking designs, and made four more (because I liked them so much) one for each of my family, my husband and I and my son and daughter. Those four stockings are still holding strong, hanging on our fireplace mantel here in Maine, each Christmas. And much to the delight, of my now young adult children, they hold many, many, gifts!

I have always wondered if I could do something with what I love most to do.....quilt and sew! I have always had a love for fabrics and in particular, I have always been drawn to the texture and feel of wool fabric. Combine this with my love for the northwoods of Maine and the nature that surrounds me, it was only natural that I created Away Up North.

I am blessed to live in this corner of Maine, away up north. It is a beautiful state, where I live surrounded by mountains, forests, lakes, ponds and streams. Next to quilting and sewing, I enjoy the outdoors and all that comes with spending time outside. Gardening, hiking, kayaking, boating, camping, snowshoeing, skiing, and ice skating, to name a few of the activities I enjoy. Learning about the nature that surrounds me (and inspires me), is another passion of mine. Reading, photography, scrapbooking, and baking keep me going when weather keeps me indoors.

I thank God who has blessed me with a husband and children who are so supportive of my new adventure.
