About my Art

My art is very skillful and it has taken over 15,000 hours of painting and practice to perfect my technique. My art style is unique and different from any other art in the market.

I use color and light to capture a specific mood, and paint with brushes, palette-knifes, and my hands and fingers to form my own unique aesthetic. The backgrounds of my acrylic and oil paintings are often inspired by patterns and textures that I find in nature. As you take a closer look you’ll discover a million little details that are unique to each piece.

The root of my art is a study into how every single human has been affected by various oppressions (classism, sexism, racism, adultism...) in his or her lifetime. Oppression affects the way we think and feel about the world and ourselves and in the way we treat ourselves and everyone we come into contact with. When we where born we were full of love and wonder even with the smallest miracles in life. Growing up we got hurt and started to believe in messages that are not serving us well and we lost that sense of unconditional self-love, appreciation and sense of wonder.

My art is an exploration of how to heal these hurts and return to that that sense of unconditional self-love and appreciation. Through my art, I attempt to show people they are not alone in their experiences. My art is a reminder that the negative messages you have received in your life are not true and that you are still the innocent zestful and loving human as you were on the day you were born.

About me

I am the space in between, the child of opposites. I was born in East Germany to a German mother and a father from Zanzibar and raised, after my parent’s flight through Africa, in West Germany during the Cold War. Dealing with the fall-out of Germanys historic burden, while being aware of the contradiction of being part of the oppressors as well as the oppressed, the first world as well as the third world, Christianity and Islam, I found myself deeply confused and depressed. I had to make sense of all these polar opposites and come to embrace the richness of my heritage and unique perspective that, the space in between holds. As a mother of two young boys, I hope to enrich my sons’ new world experience with my old world background.
