My name is Barbara Dunshee and I've been working with clay since 2000, in various realms. I began to explore sculpture in 2005 and used my interest in the human face and form as my starting point. While clay is the foundation of most of my works, I also use wood, metal, paper, paints and anything else that works its way into my studio.

I generally take my inspiration from audio and the written word and what those conjure in my mind as I work. Being visually impressionable i tend to avoid looking at anything besides what I'm working on, to keep myself from aping that subject. I rely on memory and all its beautiful distortions.

The faces materialize very organically for me, as features are created, erased and recreated, until I stop disliking what I see and can begin the refining process. When i can change the structure no more, the work…
