One of my earliest memories is sitting on the floor looking through my mother's button box while she was sewing on her big Kenmore sewing machine. She had buttons in all shapes, sizes and materials and I tried to imagine which garment each one came from - inventing a story for each one in my mind. I loved them in a handful, but I also loved to study the design of each one individually. The fancy ones were little works of art! In this modern age, where plastic buttons are a dime a dozen and all easily replaced, I doubt many people have big button boxes anymore. Seems we have lost our appreciation for these little treasures.
