Deborah's Profile

About

My name is Deborah.
I am the designer and maker behind Flotsam & Jetsum. I specialise in making slow fashion statement pieces from eco-friendly reclaimed and vintage materials.
Flotsam & Jetsum is in a state of flux as I simplify my line to carry a line of sustainable upcycled clutch bags, scarves and unique ceramic jewellery.

My ethos is live intentionally.

I come from a long line of creative types.
My mother's family escaped the Russian revolution in 1918 and eventually settled in Australia, poor as church mice, but with minds rich in inventiveness.
Mum's family is full of seamstresses.
Grandma would sew her daughter's dresses and then proceed to make a dress for herself from all the scraps.
Maybe I've inherited the gene, hey?

I adore the challenge of seeing the potential in the overlooked and reinventing it into something that will be loved for years to come.
My ideas are like shells, pummeled in the ebb and flow of the tide.
Eventually, they settle on the shore, but not before being reworked in my mind many times over.
Yup, slow fashion at it's best!
so....welcome to Flotsam & Jetsum...
