Betty McKibben's Profile

About

I have been selling, collecting, rearranging and trading beads for nearly thirty years, ever since beads provided enough income to see me safely through an adventurous week-long hitch-hike across the U.S. during a college break.

While living hand-to-mouth and "on the road" in Oregon, California and Arizona in 1981, a friend gave me seven tubes of glass seed beads in rainbow colors. These little beads sustained me as I made my way back to Boston, humbled and ready to finish my college degree. Along the way, I sold necklaces made from them for enough cash for a truck-stop meal. Ever since, I have trusted beads as the ultimate collateral.
