Hi everyone and welcome to Beautiful Yarmulkas & More!

A couple of years ago my Rabbi visited a friend in Israel and came home with a crocheted yarmulka which he loved…especially the way it fit on his head.

Unfortunately, he could not find anything of its kind in the United States. So he asked me if I could make him one patterned after his new favorite. I said I would be happy to try. Who says "no" to a Rabbi?

Even though I do crochet, I prefer to knit. I spent a long time trying different ideas and finally settled on one I thought turned out well. He loved it! I’ve named it my Sephardic style.

Next thing I knew my husband wanted one too. But, preferring a more traditional style, I created one just for him and named it my Traditional style.

And then my Rabbi's son, Eliahu, wanted one. But he wanted it smaller than his father's yet larger than my husband’s. Voila! I created a yarmulka that is in between. I call it "Yahu" after the boy who requested this new design.

I love the process of designing and knitting yarmulkas. I also get great pleasure from knowing that my yarmulkas inspire others.

So there you have it. Now the ideas just keep coming. This yarmulka thing has taken on a life of its own and I've recently added several other knitted items. I am just grateful to be along for the ride!
