besa design :: A History

Hi I'm Rebecca Brockman. I began my romance with metals, metalsmithing and stones 8 years ago while earning my BFA in Studio Art from the University of Texas. During enrollment for classes one semester, the painting class I was trying to take had filled up early, and needing to acquire studio hours, I enrolled in a metals class out of sheer curiosity. It was a match. I found that the detail oriented working style required by working with fine metals suited I innately meticulous nature. The metals training at UT was sculpturally based, focusing on conceptually based approaches. Through experimenting and “playing” in my home studio, I slowly learned how to transfer my technical metals know-how into wearable styles.

besa design :: A History

After college, I moved to Colorado for a change of pace, and in 2005 began a business selling my handcrafted, fashionable jewelry, under the name of besa design. In the summer of 2006, I moved back to Austin, Texas, bringing my burgeoning jewelry business with her. Lately I have also been increasing my custom-order sales, always enjoying the challenge of creating a one-of-a-kind, tailored, and individualized piece of jewelry.

Happy to be back in Austin, where I was born and raised, I can be found deep in South Austin, happily hammering and playing with silver and gold, kept company by my patient and supportive boyfriend and wonderfully adorable dogs. Recently, I have also returned to school, once again at the University of Texas, this time to earn my art teacher’s certification and Masters of Arts in Art Education.
