To create something is not to create for the short term, but to give birth to an item that can be treasured for a lifetime. I seek to make something that is a tribute to artisans of the past, and to honor the skills and pride of this craft.
I also want my art to be kind to mother nature and her gracious gift of inspiration. Thinking about ways to improve ones relationship with the earth isn't a fad, but a long term undertaking that hopefully, through little steps, will change our destructive impact to a much smaller degree.
Creating handmade goods of quality materials and workmanship can cut down on the "throw-away goods" that are so prevalent in our society and decrease the amount of man made material in landfills and the ocean. By buying handcrafted you also support the fair wage and fair trade values of the global economy.
