Who is Fashionfarmboy?

I'm Bjorn, and I grew up out in the sticks in Wisconsin, on a farm. Knowing that I was “different” than other kids, (boys and girls alike) I've always marched proudly to my own drummer. Eventually that fashion beat would took me away from the fields and into my dreams.

I'm a guy who learned a lot from his practical and creative mom, who was always able to conjure something from nothing, literally.

Whether making clothes for the kids from her own mother’s cast off wool coats, or painting something to make it “pretty”, she instilled the idea that beauty could be found where others didn’t see it. Re-using and recycling were a way of life. That outlook is what made hand me downs and rummage sale finds more special. She taught me how to use a sewing machine, and encouraged my love of crafting, costuming, and puppetry. To this day she still finds ways to keep her mind and hands busy with projects and ideas, and serves as inspiration to me in many ways.

I'm a guy who shook off the dust of that small town and moved to a much larger city, the State Capitol of Wisconsin, Madison, when I was just 17, where the world and all its knowledge were mine for the learning. Adapting to city life quickly, I became a fashion plate and shopped to supply the vintage clothing stores opening there. I also wanted to pursue modeling, performance, and other fashionable pastimes.

I'm a guy who took the opportunity to move yet again at 22 to the bigger city, Milwaukee, where I could really make my mark through hard work in the club scene of the 80’s. That aesthetic in fashion at the time meshed seamlessly with my part time job at the largest vintage clothing store in the state.

Styling models for photography and fashion shows became a passion, plus classes in make up, and hairdressing provided a solid background in technical expertise that have made me the luckiest guy to be able to earn a living helping people understand fashion and design through the language of the past in vintage items and hand crafted accessories.

I'm also a guy who started writing fashion stories and editorial pieces about style simply because I wanted to put a fresh point of view out there to encourage other people to embrace vintage and creative style.. Print work as a fashion stylist and online publishing became my business as well, and now almost 35 years after leaving the farm, all these elements come into play here at thefashionfarmboy on etsy. Without being fussy, precious, arch, or pious, I'm the real deal who loves the following words. Encourage. Become. Express.
So I hope you enjoy what thefashionfarmboy has to offer you when it comes to stylish living. Remember that all great fashion starts with ideas!
