Bonita Dancer's Profile

About

Hi! My name is Bonita Dancer. I am married to a gorgeous, talented ginger boy, who is one of the most creative people I know. He is my best friend.

My husband and I co-own two companies, one is called Bella Dancer Wedding Stationery and the other is a small, albeit successful advertising agency called Reload Design, which mainly works with two large European clients, and one American client from Philadelphia. We started Bella in June 2010, after people continued to compliment us on our own wedding invitation, which was an A3 page printed both sides. The one side was divided into six blocks and contained some design elements and all the info, the other was purely dedicated to design. We drew a map by hand of the hike we did up a mountain where Nic proposed to me, with little quirky sketches marking our special moments along the way (one of them a little 'pee stop').

We added sentimental photographs, and took more photos of all our souvenirs, such as bottle caps, dried roses and a little Swazi doll from the trip which was also included in the design. The design took us 26 hours to complete! Email me at bonita[at]belladancer.co.za if you wish to see a picture of it! The name Bella comes from the gorgeous engagement ring my husband had designed for me - the Isabella.

Nic and I live on the East Coast of South Africa with our two little dogs named Huey and Coco, in a tourist city called Durban - a surfers paradise. It is also the birthplace of the infamous Shaka Zulu, although seeing people in their traditional Zulu gear means having to pay and watch a show :) We are hoping to start our little family at the end of 2012, although I do have a gorgeous step daughter whom I unfortunately only see once a week.

I think that many people automatically assume that South Africa is much like the rest of Africa, which is the furthest thing from the truth. We are a very cosmopolitan country (hey Charlize Theron is from here!), and we have all modern technology available to the first world (like the latest Mac Pro's - yessss!), here too. And no, we do not have wild animals in our back yards. All you will find in our back yard are two little dogs and a picket fence. :)

I love whimsical vintage designs and decor (especially little teacups) but on the opposite end I have an appreciation for more darker forms of art, like steampunk. I love, love, love candy (we call it sweets) - the pretty colors and deliciousness, and therefore have to gym quite often or else! I am a very strong and focused person (a perfectionist by right), which has made me a very successful business woman, but I do have a very big heart and love supporting people where and when I can. Nic and I both love travelling - here in South Africa but also abroad. I lived in England for some time, from where I was able to travel a lot to other countries. I also studied in Belgium at one point during varsity.

We have decided to put Bella Dancer on Etsy, as we think we bring a fresh approach to stationery, which is not common in the States. We are very passionate about our work and love creating designs that really mean something to our clients. Sentiment is definitely key! Our Etsy shop is called bonitadancer, and specializes in well-designed, DIY printable invitations and we would love for you to browse through what we have on offer.

We are so excited to be part of the Etsy community!

Much love,
Bon and Nic
