Welcome to An Unexpected Journey, thank you for stopping by. Where we live in hilly New Hampshire, roads wind up and down and around hills. It is like a metaphor for our lives: we never know where life's road is going to take us, we just aren't able to see that far down the road.
When my son, Rob was born with a rare heart condition it drew us closer together as a family, made us stronger as individuals and made us more aware of capturing the best of every day.
As Rob has grown, complications from his condition have made it difficult for him to work outside the home. To that end, we developed the idea of having a home based business that he can manage. When my daughter got married last year, we discovered as a family a passion for vintage, retro and the hunt that went along with it. About

After the wedding we had so many wonderful items left ( like 160 vintage dishes, and bennington door knobs we made into placecard holders) I realized I was actually in a good position to start a business. And so "An Unexpected Journey" was born.
As for myself, I am all about color, texture and shabby vintage styling. I'm a sucker for My husband, Dana, Rob and I love hunting for vintage and retro findings. Rob and Dana like finding tins and any antiquated electronics. Dana is great at repairing electrical items and has recently enjoyed making hanging lamps out of old wire egg baskets. I search for ways to repurpose oddments, hardware, etc. It satisfies a creative drive in me as well as adding art and beauty to a little bit of every day.
You will find a mixture of vintage and new handcrafted items. Antique linen napkins get remade into stunning backdrops for unique looking pillows. Linen tea towels have been repurposed as pillows as well. The glass milk bottles have been used as vases at my daughter's wedding and the burlap table runners were inspired by her wedding too! All handcrafted items (such as the table runners) where made by myself. We hope you enjoy browsing our "shelves" as much as we have enjoyed the hunt that put the treasures there.
And let us know if you are on the hunt for something in particular, we would be happy to join in the search!

We have another shop specifically for vintage weddings and special occasions:

Please check out my daughter's shop as well where I have hand sewn and hand knitted items for sale with hers as well as vintage fabric and sewing notions:

(Wonderful repurposed fabrics, recycled maps, bottle cap earrings and other lovely handcrafted items!)
