Jennie Nelson's Profile

About

Art by Jennie Nelson!

I work with inks, acrylics, enamels, glass, concrete, burlap, and other fun things, but I favor the bold contrasts I am able to produce with black ink or paint - it is so permanent and unforgiving - just like life in the way that you can't go back, but you can just keep going and incorporate the little mistake into your picture somehow.

I am the author and illustrator of middle grade books, Booger Bunny and Farty Party, as well as Artful Meditations, and An Artful Adventures adult coloring books. I am also a book and wine label illustrator full time, but the work you see in my Etsy shop is my creativity doing exactly what it wants to do without any rules or boundaries. I cannot imagine my life without that!

While I do have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Development, as well as an Associate of Arts from SUNY Empire State College, I also don't believe that a degree is necessary to be a great artist. I listen to new age philosophy audio books while I work. I'm a fan of Dr. Wayne Dyer, Louise Hay, Deepak Chopra, Tony Robbins, Eckhart Tolle, John Assaraf and many more, so all of my work is thoroughly steeped in positivity.

Why Acorn Island? What's with the acorn? It's the potentiality that it holds! One little acorn is all that you see. You can put it on a shelf and it will sit there for years in all of it's acornness. But it still holds the abundant magic of a beautiful oak tree inside of it. The little acorn will always just be a little acorn though unless the circumstances are right. It needs sunlight, soil, and water for it to be all that it can be. It kind of reminds me of the divine potential that is inside each of us.
