I am a potter who has been throwing for over 20 years. I learned to throw on the kick-wheel -- for which I am eternally grateful. I love the quiet of the wheel, kicking when I need to speed up, and dragging my foot to slow down a bit.
I opened my own studio in 2008 and have found, now that I am teaching others to throw on the wheel -- both kick and electric -- that I get as much satisfaction out of the love and understanding that my students have for the craft as I do when I throw a pot on my own. There is something special about that exchange of information and movement working with the clay on the wheel... that when a student "gets" it, that click within your being, that zen moment when the clay centers... I can't really explain it but all of you potters out there know exactly what I mean!
