As I began the 8th grade year with my class, I quickly realized it would be my last. As a Waldorf teacher graduating a class of 8th graders, I was expected to pick up a class of 1st graders and take them through 8 years of school. While I love Waldorf, I was ill-prepared to take on 20-some first graders, couldn't commit to 8 years, and just couldn't reconcile taking such a huge chunk of time away from my own children for so little pay. (If you think public teachers make nothing, try teaching at a fledgling private school.) So the timing was perfect for me to do what I'd always wanted to do, be a full-time artist.
