About

After graduating from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1997 with a degree in Architecture I moved to New York City. During my seven years in the city I was working as an architect by day and as a potter by night, making for some very long but creative days. While living in the city one of my favorite places to run was from Union Square, down along the west side highway and over the Brooklyn Bridge into Brooklyn. On one of these runs I decided to start taking my ceramic work a little more seriously by displaying it online. My running partner at the time gave me the great idea of selling my work under the name scarlettwares.

In 2004 Susan Frantz of Emergent Design Ideas helped me launch scarlettwares.com giving my ceramic work a much needed public face.

After those seven inspiring years in New York my husband, Gabriel Pons, and I decided to quit our day jobs and pursue our art. We ended up finding a space in Downtown Fredericksburg, Virginia where we opened the doors to the PONSHOP located at LibertyTown Arts Workshop. The PONSHOP became a place for us to create, display and sell our work as well as give classes and host events.

Virginia has also brought us close to family and their talents. My sons Diego and Cairo, born in 2005 and 2008, have inspired a knitting frenzy amongst my mother and aunt and by the time my first son was two years old he had an army of knit hats. We needed a project and since I'm always in constant search of clothing that works not only in studio when I'm elbow deep in clay, but that keeps me warm and looks nice while I'm talking to customers I designed the Button Scarf. This scarf keeps you warm, stays out of your way and adds texture and color to whatever you are wearing.

Thanks for visiting. Be sure to check out our blog at www.ponshopstudio.blogspot.com where you can see our latest t-shirt and skateboard designs, painting and all the fun stuff happening in our art classes.
