About

Hello and welcome to my shop! Make yourself at home won't you? My name is Jeannine, artist and owner of By Way of Salem.

By Way of Salem was created out of my long-time love of the holidays, mostly Christmas and Halloween, but it's also much more! It's my special place where it's the holidays all year long!

I love the feeling of "home"; cottage and country, rustic and charming , and so my store is just all about the things I love and want in my own house including sweet paintings, fun sculptures, unique art, rag dolls, quilts, old signs, yard art and garden items, funky junk, and anything else that might catch my eye.

In this coming year, look for more interesting hand painted additions to my shop celebrating life's special events; weddings, births, and other joyous occasions. AND I've also started a new shop here on Etsy…

AND I've also started a new shop here on Etsy called Salem's Charms! It's all my jewelry. Romantic and rustic with a bit of gypsy of course!

About my art: I have always loved to paint first and foremost, then I added in stitching and sculpting, and well, just about anything to do with crafts! My styles range from quirky and whimsical, to folk, prim, rustic, French Country, and everything in between. I just create what I love. All of my art is created by me, then handpainted which means lots of hours and love goes into each piece, with attention to quality and detail.

A bit about me: I've been an artist since childhood. My mother encouraged me to be creative, buying me crayons, paints, paper, glitter, etc., every birthday and Christmas. I think that was a definite influence on my love of crafting. Aside from By Way of Salem, I worked as a production artist for many years painting full size carousel horses for several companies, and also a line of clown statues. I've done many craft and art shows with my items through the years. Additionally I had a really cute t-shirt item out on the market called "Paint Your Own T-Shirt Kit" so I've dabbled in the retail end of things some too.

On a personal note; I have 2 horses; 1 chestnut Arabian and 1 white Mustang (adopted). I had a beautiful black Arabian but she passed earlier this year... 5 dogs (all rescues), 5 kitties (all rescues), and a very supportive husband too! Animals are a big part of my life and part of the reason why I do my art. I donate a portion of my sales to various animal organizations and rescues and try to help as much as I can.

I also love to garden; planting herbs and lavender are my favorites. I also love interior design, going to flea markets and junking, repurposing, and home remodeling.

Last year we relocated from Auburn, Washington where we lived for 18 years to a farm south of Nashville, TN.

BY WAY OF SALEM signature pieces are my one-of-a-kind Halloween sculptures. They are created from various types of clay and/or papier mache, and come signed by the artist (me!) and numbered. None will be reproduced. I have many fans around the world who are collecting my pieces now and I'm very proud of that.

P.S. Custom orders are always welcome!
