About

In the Spring of 2013, I became a stay at home mom. As anyone with children knows, craft time is an absolute necessity! I’d never considered myself an artist, but it doesn’t take an artist to sit down with a few little ones with some crayons, glitter, scissors, and glue.

I began looking for different craft activities to keep my birds occupied, and myself entertained. These art activities gradually morphed into projects that I would work on after my family was in bed at night. I quickly realized that my creations were overtaking our home! I was making things just to make them, and had nowhere for them to go.

About this same time, a friend of mine suggested that I try to sell a few things on Etsy. I opened LucyBirdy in the Fall of 2013 as a hobbyist. I thought that online selling was a fabulous way to make room for my never-ending projects as well as fund a few more!

I bought my first sewing machine nearly a year later with the idea to try my hand at sewing. I began my sewing education by making paper garlands, and decided to offer these garlands on Etsy. Seemingly overnight, the garland section of my tiny store, took off! In a matter of weeks, I’d sold hundreds of garlands. In the following months, I redesigned my store and began to imagine LucyBirdy as a real business, and no longer as a hobby.

Three years ago, I would never have imagined that I would be running my own business and creating everything I sell with my own two hands. Now, I can’t imagine my future any other way!
