Hi There! Welcome to Cattleya Designs at Etsy. I have always loved jewelry, but never really admired the traditional pieces you might see in a chain style store front. Jewelry is wearable art and that’s how I look at every piece I make. Symbolism and metaphor drive my designs. I love semi-precious & precious gems but I don’t like things that are gaudy. I believe in a delicate balance of flash and practicality. The name of my store exemplifies my attitude about jewelry. The cattleya orchid is a rather homely plant prior to blooming and after it blooms it’s the most precious thing on earth, filling your senses with color and perfume. The plant itself is incredibly practical, with pods functioning like the humps of a camel, providing water continuously to nourish the growing flowers within. I like to think of my jewelry as a metaphor for the cattleya… stones and metal that come together to inspire the senses.

I use only high quality metals, semi-precious & precious gems, and seashells from the Southern California coast. I craft each piece with the idea that it can be worn anytime for any occasion, as that is how I live my life. Why spend money on an item you can wear only once in a while? Each piece is made with special care in my home, usually from my kitchen...much to my teenagers’ chagrin.

Jewelry design is my passion and I thoroughly enjoy sharing it with everyone. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have. I delight in personal design and would be happy to take special orders for the individual as well as for groups such as bridal parties. I look forward to hearing from you!
