It is our own duty to create however we like, for any reason at all. The artist is responsible for creating. They owe it to themselves, and they owe it to the people. Their obligation is that of many things, to provoke thoughts, challenge the mind, revolutionize opinion, express powerful emotions, relate to people, raise questions never thought of. “Almost one hundred years ago, Kandinsky asked himself, just like Gauguin had asked before him, where we are going and what the duty of the artist really is. Kandinsky cites Schumann: “To send light into the darkness of men’s hearts – such is the duty of the artist.” Our ability to display the world is essentially our own view, for example a political or social issue we disagree or agree with, by creating it in a visual form brings a spirit that others can see and feel. Art thrives because it has importance. The viewer becomes absorbed, and sees something of interest or disinterest reflected in it.

The authenticity of personal vision should take huge priority. Our hearts are not fully into a piece if we do not believe in it entirely ourselves. I believe that art can bring about a better understanding. Exposing people to a larger view of the world changes their interactions with the world. Your personal vision and skill is illustrated through your craft and medium. We should use the knowledge and gift we obtain to find ways to use it to inform others of our ideas. Art speaks to us; it is a whirl of visual experience. Personal vision allows expression of individual value, and human experience. It allows us to inform and educate. Personal vision enables us to take from within ourselves and communicate to others.

I create art for myself, and I create art for others. It is a way to escape through esthetic thought, and submerge ourselves within works. Schopenhauer describes to no longer perceive the world as an object of perception. Through esthetic experience we can allow ourselves to let go and simply get pleasure from the art we are viewing. “Treat a work of art like a prince, let it speak to you first” (Schopenhauer, Arthur)
