Hi!

Hi!

So my husband was a little nervous when I mentioned that my new hobby involved molten glass and a flaming torch, but now that our house is still standing and I have remained fairly sane and unscathed nearly 10 (10?!) years later, now he's pretty ok with the whole idea.

What is lampworking anyway?

Lampworking is the process of melting rods of glass on a steel rod (mandrel), using gravity, tools and the flame of a torch to form colorful designs. After forming the shape of the bead, I 'paint' my designs with the ends of rods of glass that I'm melting in the flame of the torch as I apply it, while rotating the mandrel over the flame with the other hand, keeping the bead evenly heated and balanced. It's kind of like patting your head and rubbing your tummy at the same time. Phew!

*All lampwork glass is annealed in a digitally controlled kiln. Although my glass is made to last, they must still be handled with care.

*Just like the stem of a wine glass, the handles of the vessels can be fragile if bumped or dropped. Vessels are recommended for gentle use as a necklace only.
