About

My formal art training was at the University of Michigan, and I have been making art all of my life. I have worked in Polyform Clay, Ceramics, Pastels, and Oils. My interest in color, shape and abstraction has become the focus of my work, regardless of the medium. I also like working a small scale and find the format comfortable but challenging.

Printmaking is a relatively new medium for me, and I find it very exciting. The spontaneous way that I work is not totally predictable which makes the results surprising and fresh. Currently, I am exploring ideas about architecture, aerial perspective, water and inner space. Almost any pattern can be a jumping-off point for the next printing plate.

My prints are unique images. Although I may use the same printing plate more than one time, the results are always different. It depends on how the plate is inked and whether there are additions of other elements on the finished print.

The processes I use are mainly Dry Point Etching, Collagraphs, and Solar Plates. These are different kinds of plates that are made and then inked and printed. I also use collage elements or other materials when the work dictates. I have sewn on the prints, used crayon and colored pencil, gold leaf and stamps. The process is mostly spontaneous and does not require a lot of pre-planning. I like to let it evolve intuitively, which is a joyous way to work.
