Diane Lublinski's Profile

About

I am drawn to the figurative form making each piece one at a time, telling my story from deep inside. I am influenced by a childhood love of fantasy, expressing the absurdity of things while drawing influence from unexpected sources like the lyrics of music and nursery rhymes.

All of my ceramic work starts on a potters wheel. I work fast, as if I were running out of time, needing to see it grow. I alter by pinching, cutting and adding clay until my idea emerges. Multiple firings with underglaze, stain, slips, oxide, up to 5 glazes and stained glass complete the process.

Recently I have shifted to a more organic form, inspired by the fragile coral reef, although I always return to the human figure. Now they are merging together.
