About

I love working with polymer clay with its fabulous array of blendable colors, easy workability, and low firing temperature. It’s the perfect medium for a crafter in a small New York apartment, where my kitchen is also “the studio.”

The inspiration for my designs comes from so many sources – places I’ve visited, or want to see someday, a scrap of fabric, an architectural detail, the vibrant colors in a post-impressionist museum masterpiece.

I love playing with texture, as you can see in so many of the items in my Claytheism shop. Given the choice, I prefer rough to smooth – suede to satin, rustic pottery to fine porcelain, hammered tin to a glossy mirror finish. You get the idea.

At times I have so many project ideas in my head I will sit and work for hours to get them all completed. But just as often, I will simply work the clay with nothing specific in mind -- rolling it flat, coiling it and twisting colors together. Sometimes inspiration emerges, but even if not, the process itself is very soothing. Although my hands are busy, it seems to clear my mind and becomes almost a form of meditation.

Thank you for visiting my shop. I hope you enjoy browsing among the handmade items, and perhaps you will find the perfect little treasure to inspire you and brighten your day.

I live and work in Sunnyside, Queens, which (for the benefit of non-natives), is part of New York City. All my work is done in a smoke-free and pet-free environment. My birthday is on New Year’s Eve, and I am a typical stubborn, late-blooming, control-freak Capricorn, and proud of it.
