-- With simple materials and imagination, much beauty can be created. --

Thank you for stopping by. In addition to making the wares in my shop Nature's Embers, I am a wife to Tobi and the mother to my wonderful 7-year-old son. This shop is where I sell the results of creative pursuits, which I enthusiastically pursue when I am not at work.

Since childhood, I have always loved to create. Over the years the materials I have used and the objects I've created have changed, but the love of creating beautiful things endures. These days, I spend my time working with natural fiber yarns, beeswax sheets, wool roving and locks, and straw. Quite a mix, but I find the diversity of materials and creations meet different creative needs for me. I can't imagine choosing just one.

If you'd like a bit more information about the processes and materials I use to create, read on...

Needle Felting...
Recently, I discovered some materials and creative endeavors grounded in the Waldorf education tradition. I have begun working with wool roving and natural wool locks to create my fairies, angels, and figures in nature using traditional needle felting techniques. They bring magic to any space in which they are placed and are perfect for placing in a child's bedroom or play area to create a feeling of wonder. My beautiful son inspires me to create such things and enjoys the imaginary world they can create.

Crocheting...
I think one of the most enjoyable aspects of creating is working with simple natural materials. Texture is very important to me. I have always had sensitive skin, so working with soft, luxurious, natural fibers is a particular pleasure. Alpaca, merino wool, and angora mohair are some of my favorites. i also have a great appreciation for the patterns of stitches that make each piece unique.

Beeswax...
Natural beeswax sheets become candles lovely to the senses. They smell like honey, look beautiful, and the textures of honeycomb and corrugated varieties are so interesting to touch. One of my very unique creations that I have never seen anywhere else, are my folded beeswax candles. Unlike my rolled candles, these are created in a whole new way. You'll have to check them out!

Straw...
I never considered that straw could be used to make beautiful decorative stars. However, I have my husband to thank for introducing me to traditional German straw star ornaments. Their are endless styles that can be created from simple to very complex. We have several hanging on our kitchen cabinets and windows much of the year, and the natural colored stars look particularly beautiful on a Christmas tree.
