Alexa Baehr's Profile

About

Hello, my name is Alexa Baehr and I live in Seattle, WA.

I learned how to sew in 4-H when I was in the 4th grade. I have a sewing machine that's been tucked away in the back of my closet until recently.

Both of my parents were artists when I was growing up, so I was always encouraged creatively. I draw, paint, write, make music, cook, sew, do craft projects, take pictures, and much more!

I've been in the coffee industry for about 14 years now. I started making espresso as a teenager, and absolutely fell in love. I adore coffee house culture, the coffee community, and sharing my passion for coffee with others!

The idea for Coffee Purse happened while visiting an international coffee roaster. I learned that all un-roasted (green) coffees are shipped from around the world in jute bags with the country of origin and the coffee cooperative printed on the front. Unfortunately, the only people that get to see them are the farmers, the cooperatives, and the coffee roaster. I thought it would be fun to make some purses and handbags out of these interesting materials to share with my barista friends and coffee enthusiasts. I am offering them here on Etsy so I can share my designs with all of you.

Coffee Purse is currently retailing at local Seattle coffee shops and cafes, as well as at the University of Washington Burke Museum, at the Coffee: The World In Your Cup exhibit.

Currently I teach at the Seattle Barista Academy, and work from home sewing and creating handmade goods.
