Colleen Roxas' Profile

About

Mary Colleen Tan Roxas is my whole name, but I prefer to just go by Colleen. I am currently a junior attending Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) pursuing a major in Graphic Design and a concentration in Interaction Design & Art. Artistic endeavors of interest include sculpting minuscule treats into jewelry, sewing eccentric handbags out of re-purposed snack food packages, and digitally illustrating graphics, drawing, taking photos, and so much more. I love engaging in a variety of different media.

INTERESTS

Besides all the artsy ventures, I enjoy spending time with people I love, listening to music, cooking Indian food, baking cupcakes, dying my hair in different colors, playing tennis, rollerblading, watching movies, going to concerts and so much more.

In addition, I have an obsession for zebras,…

HISTORY

Crafting has been a hobby for almost my entire life. Ever since I was little I had always dreamed of owning my own store to sell all the artistic things that I've made. I would do all sorts of crafts like making jewelry from my bead kits, sewing clothes for my toy dolls, and making my own purses or school organizers. In school I strutted down hallways and got known for the eccentric accessories I made such as the juice-pouch purses, re-purposed playing card bags, or fluffy monster bags. I was a young entrepreneur selling jewelry items to friends in the cafeteria and making drawings for people I loved. Today, I still enjoy sharing my creations for others to adore.

CREATIVE MISSION

My creative mission is to find innovation through playful experimentation and reconstruction with an open-minded, do-it-yourself outlook. With a carefully conscious eye for crafty design, I learn to discover the beauty and aesthetic found in everyday objects and experiences of interest. From these discoveries, I notice relationships that characteristically match together with found materials in an expressive way and then I invent form and functionality through stylish, eye-catching creations.
