Ruth's Profile

About

I grew up on a small farm in Connecticut in a family full of artists and people who work with their hands. After receiving my BFA in photography in 1997, I began exploring my concepts through jewelry-making techniques. An advocate for the small and forgotten, the displaced and discarded, I find the act of adorning oneself with these objects to be empowering. Each component of the natural world is beautiful, from molecules passing through the walls of cells to toxic mold, from single-celled organisms to deadly viruses. By embellishing ourselves with the forms we take for granted or are too afraid to think about, we celebrate ourselves and our place in the world around us.

***Materials***
All my work is made by hand, by me, with the utmost concern for quality. I use sterling silver, 14 k gold, and occasionally 18k gold. The metals I use are solid, not plated, so the gold will never wear away to show another metal. When I use cast components, the original is fabricated by me and cast by a small business (husband and wife) in Seattle. When this is the case, it is in the item description.

***Shipping***
I ship via USPS unless you request a different shipping method. All pieces are shipped in kraft jewelry boxes with the Contagious logo inside a padded envelope. POSTAGE WITHIN THE UNITED STATES INCLUDES INSURANCE AND DELIVERY CONFIRMATION. Please convo me for insurance rates for international shipments. I can't be responsible for any package sent overseas without insurance.

Feel free to contact me should you have any questions or concerns!

Do you own a boutique and would like to carry my work? Please convo me, or email me at contagiousjewelry at yahoo dot com.

Is there a cool store in your town that you think would like to carry my work? If you make a successful connection for me, I will give you a gift certificate toward anything in my shop. Convo for details.

Would you like to visit my jewelry in person?
It is carried by the following stores:
Camelion Design, Seattle, WA
Wink SF, San Francisco, CA
VIX Emporium, Philadelphia, PA
Wesleyan Gallery Shop, Middletown, CT
The Front Porch, Nashville, TN
