Corey Egan's Profile

About

San Francisco based metalsmith Corey Egan merges old world techniques and hand carved motifs to create her collection of artisan jewelry. Drawing inspiration from natural patterns, texture and silhouettes, each of Corey’s pieces are meticulously crafted and adorned with intimate details.

Corey has always felt a strong connection to the outdoors. From a young age, the Michigan native was enthralled with the idea of exploration. She could regularly be found knee-deep in the nearest creek searching for creatures and keepsakes. Buckets held critters she caught in her bare hands. A barbie lunchbox housed her growing rock collection. Pinch pots were made from the riverbed’s clay and laid out in the sun to dry. The adventures even resulted in a few long term friendships--Corey’s parents patiently welcomed turtle after turtle to their backyard pond…

The adventures even resulted in a few long term friendships--Corey’s parents patiently welcomed turtle after turtle to their backyard pond.

This love of science and nature manifested along with Corey’s growing artistic talents. Already drawing from a young age, Corey spent her teenage years honing skills as a painter, ceramicist and sculptor. Her obsessive love of texture and details was apparent in each medium she touched. While studying in Detroit in 2004 she encountered metalsmithing for the first time. She was fascinated with the forming process and inspired by its tactile properties. Metal was the perfect medium for Corey to realize the textures of her natural treasures.

After graduating with a BFA in Metals from Wayne State University, she attended San Francisco's Revere Academy to study as a Jewelry Technician. She spent the following years employed by established goldsmiths, designers and jewelry galleries before forming her own collection in 2010.

Today Corey's work draws on her love of exploration, animals and artifacts to create wearable works of art from precious metals and gems. She currently lives in San Francisco with her husband who, thankfully, loves animals and adventure as much as she does.
