About

I began sewing many many years ago when I was seven years old. My mom gave me one of those cool old Singer sewing machines, one of the black ones with the gold scrollwork. But she thought I was too little to handle the electricity, so my dad attached a carpenters C-clamp to the wheel and my wonderful brother turned it when I wanted to sew. Of course that didn't last long and they gave in and let me have the foot pedal and I have been sewing ever since. I sewed and knitted and crocheted doll clothes, especially Barbie clothes. Then when I was 12 years old, I started selling custom made Barbie clothes to all the ladies in the neighborhood for their daughters.

Later in my 20's, as my sisters, (younger sisters I must add) started having kids, I made their children all sorts of things from Christening dresses right on up to their wedding dresses and bridesmaids dresses when they got married. Where did all that time go?!

When the kids were young, they started asking for special Halloween costumes. We went through all the Disney Characters, then Anime as they got older. One year I realized I had made 25 Halloween costumes for all the nieces and nephews and never even thought twice about it.

Finally my husband and I decided if we wanted our own kids we better get started. We were lucky and now have a wonderful son. When he was 5 years old he asked for a special costume and since I was so busy with other things, I decided to buy one of the factory made costumes for him. When it came it was so flimsy I put my finger through the material in the first day. I thought this is ridiculous...I sew better than this, why not start selling my costumes. I am going to make them anyway, why not have fun doing something I love.

And now seven years later I feel I have been so blessed. I was able to stay home with my son when he was young, then later when he is in school, able to go to every field trip and help in class every week. Sewing all day, and feeling like I have the best job in the whole world. What is that saying? "If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life" that has become my motto.

I am also on Etsy under the store name CapeAndCloak where I have more medieval, Victorian and Other Halloween Costumes.
