Though I work with many things from nature, my favorite is the sea glass, I love what it symbolizes.

To me, sea glass is the perfect representation of this crazy journey we call life. Of how you don't always end up where you set out to go, but you often end up in a beautiful place, when its all said and done, It represents the ability to start out with a purpose, (like a coke bottle made for one purpose) and suddenly when that purpose is lost, you find yourself on a journey, sometimes- usually even- a hard one. One that leaves you broken and wears you down on all sides and maybe it leaves you only a small piece of what you started out as. But over time- the crashing waves which broke you slowly change you into something more beautiful than you started out. A unique treasure unlike any other out there- something people just can't take their eyes off but with the color and…

Sea glass is a beautiful picture of overcoming all and coming out more beautiful. People say diamonds are the best representation of that- but I beg to differ.

My name is Courtney. I guess my obsession with rocks and shells and collecting them actually started long before anyone would imagine. I'd say my love for natures hidden treasures, for finding them and then creating wearable masterpieces for others to enjoy their beauty is an obsession that flows in my veins.

Long before I was ever even thought of, I had a grandfather who loved to collect rocks and tumble them and turn them into gorgeous pieces of jewelry, He saw beauty in things most people quite literally walked right over. People said he looked down at the ground so much when he walked , it was a miracle he knew where he was going, that the only way he could find his way back to where he came from was by looking at the ground.

I never met my grandfather, he died before I was born, but much to the surprise of my father (who knew him well) I started collecting rocks at a very young. Parents, grandparents, and aunts spent hours just sitting in the ground with me watching me "pick rocks" from the time I was about two or three on. They would hold my plunder for me.

Many of my funny child hood stories involve rocks, including one where my dad mistook a container of my tiny egg-shaped "eggrocks" for jelly beans and tried to eat them.

When I was in my early twenties I took a trip to Cuba. There were beaches, gorgeous beaches covered in sea glass. It was my heaven on earth and I spent hours and days collecting it. I was mesmerized by it with all its many shapes and colors. It was then that I decided to try my hand at making jewelry for the first time from these beautiful treasures from the sea.

People took notice when I wore them and I started making them from friends and family who encouraged me to sell them to others as well. So here I am. On Etsy, carrying on the hobby and legacy my grandfather passed on to me without ever even meeting me.
