Vilia Buckingham's Profile

About

Hi, my name is Vilia Buckingham, and I am a grandmother to nine wonderful grandchildren.

I learned to crochet and sew many years ago while in high school, and out of necessity used most of my sewing skills for my family. Many of my family members and friends are owners of my crochet and sewing efforts, not to mention the numerous co-workers of my family that have commissioned my handicrafts.

Crocheting and knitting gives me the great pleasure of turning a ball of string or a skein of yarn into a piece of fabric. I love the fact that sewing allows me to own a garment that is tailored to my wishes; you know, longer hem lengths for my skirts and dresses, my favorite type of waistband, the desired length of my jackets and blouses, and I can have pockets in all my pants. Sewing lends me the art of designing my own clothes…

Sewing lends me the art of designing my own clothes.

Painting allows me to slip into a place of no return. It’s a wonderful stress reliever that provides me the peace of mind that I desperately need from time to time. I just put on some soft music and I let the process of my creativity take place. I became interested in oil painting while viewing lessons on TV about 15 years ago. Shorty afterwards, I enrolled for several semesters in an oil painting class at a local community college. Later, I enrolled in a watercolor class for two semesters, and one semester in a decorative painting class. I have been commissioned for several oil portraits and a few oil still-life paintings. My watercolor and decorative painting skills, so far, have only been applied for personal use.

I hope to stock Crafty Palace with finished products using most of my aforementioned skills.
