I've always loved candles and burn them daily. As you can imagine, this became a very expensive habit. Additionally, I noticed that many of the jar candles I was buying would create a black soot ring around the mouth of the jar, sometimes emitting visible black soot from the flame. I learned that this is a result of paraffin wax being derived from petroleum. Therefore, I looked into natural, vegetable wax candles.
My final solution was to learn to make soy wax candles myself. While soy wax IS more expensive than paraffin, it's more than worth it for an environmentally friendly candle that has a longer burn time.

I've been a candle maker for over eight years and have only ever worked with soy wax. I can make soy candles out of just about any container (fire-proof container, that is), including wine glasses! :)
