About

After working as a graphic designer/art director in advertising for more years than I care to mention, I decided to do something that made ME happy — something that ended up the way I wanted, without being changed beyond recognition by account service reps, finicky clients or nervous lawyers. So a couple of years ago I came up with the notion of making “Gourdian Angels” for Christmas gifts and had so much fun that I just never stopped. Although I still do many Gourdian Angels, I have expanded my list of “gourdeous” creations (OK — enough with the gourd puns) to include elves, fairy tale characters, mermaids, Santas, Noahs and pretty much anything I can think of that fits the shape of the various gourds or gourd fragments I find to work with.

Oh, and lots of cats — I manage to sneak a cat in whenever possible!
My illustrations are done with a combination of permanent markers, metallic leafing pens, wood stains and acrylic paint — and I use aluminum sheet metal to make wings, halos, elf ears, mermaid and whale tails, etc. Many of the pieces are mounted on mahogany bases made by my long suffering, woodworker husband, and others are mounted on driftwood.
I’m currently doing some smaller things like jewelry and ornaments. Thanks for visiting my shop. I hope you’ll keep checking back to see what’s new.
