I am inspired by combinations of color and textures. Creating these combinations and encouraging them to play nicely together is like a puzzle that never ends. From a very early age I designed doll clothes by combining laces and different fabrics - it was never satisfying to use just one. The lushness of the Elizabethan court, pre-revolutionary France, and the anti-bellum South make my heart beat faster. Like a magpie, I want mass quantities of shinies, laces, ribbons, gems, and fabrics.
I taught myself to make quilts at about age 13, inspired by a quilt made by my great-great-grandmother. Designing patchwork taught me about blending, contrast, and how colors affect each other. I've continued sewing and quilting, as well as experimenting with every other fiberart I've run across.
