Dan Kendrick began painting at age 8 and has never stopped. He has received numerous awards and scholarships along his quest for knowledge. The United States Army borrowed him for a short period of time from 1965-67. Then he resumed his quest leading him back and forth and throughout California. He made several trips to the Mojave Desert to paint a series of heavy glazed paintings. While living in Monterey, California he won first and second place prizes in the Seaside Art Exhibition. He opened a gallery on Cannery Row. He was the Director of the Monterey Academy of Fine Art, but eventually resigned to live and paint in Big Sur deep in the Ventanna Wilderness. He was awarded the Monterey Civic Purchase Award in 1979. He had his work exhibited at the Monterey Museum of Fine Art. And what he is most proud of is his degree in Wilderness Painting from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1982: A unique degree. Previously, he had received a Diploma from the Dallas Art Institute in Fine Art and Creative Painting in 1971.

Dan has studied with Bud Biggs, Reveau Bassett, Jerry Bywaters, B.G. Eads, Valton Tyler, Leona McGill, Ray Froman Olin Travis, and Thomas Brittain.

Mr. Kendrick Grew up in a Conservation Lab that his mother owned and he matured in that environment as a child and youth. He would take over the reins of that business until he retired from that career in 2004. Throughout this period of time he continued to paint the landscape and wilderness which was his first love.

Today Dan’s work can be found in many private collections and corporate collections throughout the United States. The influence from the many teachers that he has had over the years figures into his art as he continues the direction of his art that he started several decades ago.
