About

Born and grown in Illinois, chasing toads and snakes and stag beetles and barn cats with bloody knees in a dress. Worked for The Man. Always a writer, secretly, on the side. Figured out how to go to college and grad school. Figured out how to become a writer by trade. Worked for The Man, writing this time. Figured out student loans are for chumps. Worked for The Man, writing marketing copy. Discovered that The Man didn't understand much about marketing copy.

Started doing DarlingClandestine. Enjoyed astonishing success, for which I am immensely grateful. Stopped working for The Man. Moved to a cattle ranch in South Texas with my bibliophibian-map geek-historian-game journalist-cowboy poet husband. Got a dozen chickens and named them after the marketing staff at my former job. I come from a family teeming with master artisans, and most of them are far more visually talented than I am. They work with everything from fine jewelry to antique firearms. My ultimate accomplishment is one that would be impressive to my grandfather, or my father, or my brother Aaron, or my Aunt Pili, or my Uncle Javi, or my cousin Javi, et al.

My style? Okay. If you dropped The University of Chicago’s Joseph Bond Chapel into a snowy valley, it'd look quite at home there. If you dropped the Bolingbrook IKEA into a snowy valley, it'd maybe look not so much at home there. If you dropped a 1956 Cadillac Eldorado into a mossy forest, the forest would embrace it. If you dropped a 1998 Honda Civic into a mossy forest, the forest might wince a little. If you dropped Bowie’s “The Width of a Circle” onto a starry plain, a great beauty would ensue. If you dropped “Talking in Your Sleep” by The Romantics . . . well, you get the idea. I try to go for the former and not the latter.

I'm so thrilled to be on Etsy, among a community of folks who have a real respect for the time and effort involved in creating handmade items. Any questions? Get a hold of me anytime. Thanks so much for looking!
