About

Born in 1961 and raised in New Jersey, I have been creative and artistic as far back as I can remember. In 1966, at the age of 5, I won my first art contest entitled "Butterflies" which was displayed in the town library along with the other winners from each grade in school. I have a clear memory of helping fellow students with art projects or drawings in school if they had difficulty and was completely unaware of how easy it came to me. Upon leaving high school, I decided to take myself in a different but still creative direction, so I became a professional hairstylist and makeup artist.

After many years of a greuling schedule, it was time to get back to my roots. I had always been fascinated with mannequins and sculpture and found myself starting to paint them. My background in the beauty business and the desire to get myself back into art caused the two disciplines to unite. Painting mannequins as a hobby was about to take a different turn when, on a whim, I sent a sample of my work to the former vice president of Adel Rootstein, Nellie Fink. Not dwelling on it, I casually called her after I came back from vacation and she expressed she wanted to set up a meeting. Within 2 weeks, I was working there styling and making wigs from scratch for stores and boutiques all over North and South America. Eventually, I worked my way to painting the faces of their mannequins. With 5 years of doing monotonous production work, it was time to explore the possibility of going out on my own since that was the only way to truely express myself and reach my highest potential. I now work in a studio within my New Jersey home where I keep myself extremely busy with private commissions from mannequin collectors, retailers, artists, celebrities and authors from all over the world. Working directly with a client has been an extremely satisfying experience since I'm always being sent rare and unique mannequins transforming them from ordinary to extraordinary with life like makeup and glass eyes. You can also find me regularly on Ebay also under the name dashndazzle, where I sell highly realistic mannequin busts and mannequins, and on Flickr where I have my online portfolio of my recent work for private clients.
